Anytime I’m selected as the brand photographer for another photographer, it’s an honor.
And creating for Kelly Roberts and Balsam & Blush Photography? A dream.
Kelly is a seasoned, incredibly talented wedding photographer based in Cleveland, OH. Her brand is the by-product of years in the industry, honing her craft and expanding to a team to continue serving clients really well.
The most fun part of it all was helping Kelly hone in on the parts of her personality, experience, and work that she could showcase in a personal brand that feels refined, yet warm.
Our full-day shoot encompassed three locations, six team members, collaboration with wardrobe stylist Katherine Bignon and videographer Ashley McComb—in other words, our agenda was very full.
And it fell in what seems to be my season for photographing teams.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the midst of photographing teams, it’s that creating brand photos for a group in the creative field usually means capturing the concept of the team versus the faces of the team.
Why? Because teams change. People step in and out, seasons shift, and building a gallery around every individual risks making the work obsolete within months.
So the challenge with Kelly’s brand was to establish her as the anchor while still showcasing her associates in a way that feels timeless and true.
Creative Direction
We built this shoot around three core storylines:
- The Team → editorial and fun team shots, headshots, and concept-driven imagery that shows the idea of multiple photographers working together without hinging everything on a single face.
- The Experience → moments that show what it feels like to work with Kelly and her team: clean, elevated mock BTS, detail styling, and cues from her client process.
- Kelly, the Lead & Visionary → a suite of portraits and lifestyle images for her personal site, giving her a more elevated, refined visual brand that still feels approachable.
For locations, we chose Suite 226 for team and editorial headshots. The Judith in Cleveland for lifestyle and brand portraits that bring in that timeless, European-inspired aesthetic her brand naturally gravitates toward. And ended at the Cleveland Museum of Art as an iconic location in Cleveland where the team has photographed many a wedding.
The Strategy
This shoot was about balance. Kelly needed to step into her role as the face of the brand, but she also needed visuals that honored the associate team she’s built.
So we photographed both: concept-driven team imagery that still works even if faces change, alongside portraits and lifestyle suites that give Kelly the elevated, yet personal presence she needs as she expands into her own brand site.
The addition of wardrobe styling from Katherine and behind-the-scenes video by Ashley meant everything was polished, professional, and cohesive—a visual toolkit that feels ready for the next chapter of her business.
What I love most is how these images don’t just show what Kelly and her team do—they show how they do it. With care. With confidence. With the kind of timelessness that mirrors the very weddings they’re trusted to capture.
Because the truth is, the photos you use to represent your brand should work just as hard as the photos you create for your clients.
And this shoot gave Kelly both.
