There honestly couldn’t have been a better way to wrap up the 2018 wedding season than with Derek and Emily’s antique, Christmas themed day at Clovernook Country Club! The class and joy just oozed out of these two through everything, even when the rain continue to pour and we had to escape out to a porch under umbrellas to capture their portraits! No matter the circumstance, nothing could steal their joy because they were becoming husband and wife and that’s what mattered most to them!
Rain has been a theme throughout this wedding season, so when Derek and Emily expressed their worry about the forecast as we were planning for their day, I reassured them that it wouldn’t keep us from capturing the portraits they dreamed of! I typically research a wedding venue before arriving to scout locations the day of and I was so relieved to discover that Clovernook had a cute, white building with a wrap around porch, also known as a photographer’s perfect rain plan! We used it for their first look, bride and groom portraits and bridal party portraits! It really couldn’t have been more perfect and you’ll see why as you scroll through their images
Derek mentioned the idea of reading their handwritten vows to one another during their first look and I couldn’t have given a more resounding, yes! If I had to name a favorite part of their wedding day, it would be watching the smiles and tears as Derek and Emily poured out their hearts to each other right before walking down the aisle. I loved how they were so freely able to express their feelings for one another while we stood off to the side and captured every smile, look of affection and occasional tear forming. It was so beautiful and I’ll never forget it.
The excitement surrounding this wedding was unmistakeable, all you had to do was hear the chatter coming from the room where the bride and her girls were getting ready! They cherished everyone present and even those who weren’t able to be there. Many of Emily’s bridal details were rich in meaning as she wore her granny’s ring, pinned her “something blue” bows that were found inside of her granny’s wedding gown and carried a clutch made from her wedding dress. Capturing details is something I love, not just because they’re pretty, but because it’s in the little things on a wedding day that we tend to find the most meaning. And for Emily, she honored the legacy of her granny in her details.
I think I could go on and on about this wedding all day, it truly was special and beautiful! There couldn’t have been a better way to end my season of weddings for this year and excite me as I look forward to all the wonderful couples I get to serve next year! Derek and Emily, thank you so much for the honor of documenting your wedding day. It makes me so happy to have began this journey with y’all over a year ago!
