Backyard Wedding in Columbus Ohio | Brandon & Omega

The sunshine broke through the rain in the middle of the reception and a full rainbow made it’s debut. I’ve never photographed a rainbow on a wedding day, but I will forever remember Brandon and Omega’s day because of it! Saturday was such a beautiful culmination of the love these two have for each other! Surrounded by their family and friends, they officially began the journey of marriage together and wonderfully combined their cultures! It was an honor to photograph it!

Brandon proposed while they were on a cruise with his family last summer. One night at dinner, dessert arrived and Omega’s wasn’t what she had ordered. She thought the staff had made a mistake and said, “I think you have made a mistake” as she stared at the plate which contained a small box with a diamond ring. It was then that Brandon scooped the ring off of her plate, got down on one knee and began speaking in Omega’s native language, Chichewa. To Omega’s complete surprise, Brandon had located someone to teach him how to speak Chichewa just so that he could express his love for her! His six months of practice paid off when he saw Omega’s shocked expression and heard her emphatic yes!

Omega is originally from Malawi, Africa and moved here in the third grade. Many of her family members attended her wedding and it made the reception time so much fun! One thing that I quickly learned about her culture is how much they love to dance, and that may be a bit of an understatement! Despite the rain, family members walked into the ceremony with a small bluetooth speaker booming African music and dancing around the tent in celebration! It was such a cool thing to watch! And the dancing at the reception was even better! I think it was one of the fun receptions I have ever photographed! There was never a dull moment! Wait until you see the pictures!
